Launching the partnership between Bleau.info and Boolder

by Nicolas

Boolder × Bleau.info

Since 2021, Boolder has been working to build the best climbing guide app for Fontainebleau.

Our goal is to help climbers find their way around the forest and discover boulders suited to their level.

We are proud to have helped more than 100,000 people discover (or rediscover) thousands of boulders scattered across the 22,000 hectares of Fontainebleau forest.

Thanks to the passion and spare time of a team of volunteers, the app has remained free and open-source.

Today, we are joining forces with Bleau.info.

Bleau.info, the bible of Fontainebleau

Thanks to Bart van Raaij and many contributors, Bleau.info has meticulously catalogued more than 40,000 boulder problems over the years, with grades, descriptions, photos, videos, beta and more.

A monumental effort, celebrated by the climbing community and freely available on the Bleau.info website.

Bleau.info has naturally established itself as the go-to reference for climbing in Fontainebleau, earning the trust of the entire community.

Unfortunately, keeping everything free and relying entirely on volunteers is becoming harder to sustain, while climbing’s popularity and visitor numbers in the forest continue to grow.

How can we keep this going sustainably for the next 25 years?

A partnership between Bleau.info and Boolder

Today, we are launching a paid offering together.

Here is what that means:

  • Bleau.info remains free
  • Boolder moves to a paid subscription at €15 per year
  • The money raised is split equally between Bleau.info and Boolder.

You get the best climbing guide to Fontainebleau while supporting both our projects for years to come.

The revenue will allow us to provide more frequent updates.

We are also keeping several areas free for anyone who wants to discover the joy of climbing in Fontainebleau without committing to a subscription.

A gradual transition

We are a small team of passionate climbers, and we will need time (and your patience!) to bring this partnership to life over the coming months.

Please forgive us if we make mistakes along the way, and feel free to contact us with your questions, feedback or concerns.

One thing is certain: this partnership fills us with optimism.

We hope it will help secure the future of Bleau.info and Boolder, while preserving each project’s mission and independence.

Happy climbing!

Émile and Nicolas.
